Conservation

Make your difference with us

Help protect the beauty of our natural areas to ensure the future of our fisheries.

Our actions today shape the world of tomorrow. This is why our passion for fly fishing is so deeply intertwined with a firm commitment to sustainability.

We partner with leading regional conservation organizations and government agencies to help restore and protect our local aquatic ecosystems and fisheries.

Whether you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and participate in one of our conservation projects or prefer to support our financial conservation initiatives, we provide many ways for you to get involved. From responsible fishing practices to hands-on conservation projects, every action counts.

But our advocacy is not just about protecting the environment. It’s also about honoring the heritage and traditions of the native tribes here in Washington state, whose lives and cultures are intimately connected to these waters.

We are proud to stand alongside these forward-looking organizations...

Snohomish County
Healthy Forest Project

Our partnership with the Snohomish County Healthy Forest Project represents a cornerstone of our conservation efforts. This collaboration focuses on restoring and maintaining Picnic Point Creek, the beach into which it flows, and its surrounding forested parklands. These areas are crucial to the health of this diverse watershed. Through this joint venture, one of our members has become a Forest Steward Volunteer. He acts as liaison between our club and the county’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to organize quarterly conservation events. This gives us the opportunity to actively participate in tree planting, invasive species removal, and educational outreach to foster a sustainable future. Healthy forests are essential for clean water. They provide habitat for fish and wildlife, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Our sincere thanks to the friends, family, and neighbors who have joined us on this deeply rewarding project.

Sound Salmon Solutions

Sound Salmon Solutions is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of salmon habitats in the Puget Sound region. They provide outstanding community outreach and hands-on education for our local schools, directly promoting a deeper understanding and commitment to salmon conservation. We support their Willow Creek Hatchery here in Edmonds through hands-on assistance and financial donations. Our contributions help further their restoration efforts such as classroom programs, stream rehabilitation, and the raising of salmon for release into Puget Sound.

Restoration of Native Fish
and Riparian Zones

We are dedicated to the restoration of fish species that have seen significant declines in recent decades, such as the Chinook salmon, steelhead, and bull trout. Our goal in this area of conservation is to help restore these fish populations to sustainable levels, giving them a foundation to thrive well into the future. Our members volunteer with community organizations to restore riparian zones, critical to the well-being of our marine habitats. We have helped remove barriers to fish migration and spawning. We’ve also worked to improve water quality by reducing pollution and sedimentation on the Cedar River, Willow Creek, and other local tributaries. You can find a list of additional local conservation programs and initiatives in our Resource Directory. Most are always in need of volunteers. All are worthwhile.

Financial Contributions

Our commitment to conservation is further reflected in financial support through our 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are proud to contribute to these fine organizations. STUDENTS SAVING SALMON Olympic Fly Fishers proudly supports Students Saving Salmon, a program dedicated to educating and empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. Through hands-on learning and community projects, students engage in activities that promote the restoration and protection of local salmon populations. Our financial contributions help provide resources for these students to make a tangible impact on their local ecosystems, laying the groundwork for a lifelong commitment to conservation. PROJECT HEALING WATERS We also support Project Healing Waters, recognizing the profound connection between nature and healing. Fly fishing can be a therapeutic activity, offering peace and rehabilitation to those who have served our country. By contributing to this cause and volunteering for their events, we help provide veterans with opportunities to experience the restorative power of nature, enhancing their well-being and reintegration into civilian life. WESTERN RIVERS CONSERVANCY We are honored to help protect the great rivers of the American West through Western Rivers Conservancy. By acquiring and conserving critical riverfront lands, this organization ensures that western waterways and their surrounding habitats are preserved for wildlife, recreation, and future generations. Donations enable the purchase of key properties along rivers, support long-term stewardship, and restore river ecosystems, improving water quality. We’ve had the opportunity to camp on one of their properties and can tell you firsthand: it is a rare privilege to experience nature like that in our increasingly developed world. NORTHWEST YOUTH CONSERVATION AND FLY FISHING ACADEMY We wish the Fly Fishing Academy had been around when we were first starting out. They offer youth from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to learn about fly fishing, water conservation, and aquatic ecosystems. Through hands-on workshops and educational programs, the academy teaches the foundations of fly fishing coupled with an understanding of environmental stewardship. We sponsor one camper annually, helping cover the costs of equipment, educational materials, and field trips for this all-inclusive weeklong camp.
