More Than a Fishing Trip
At Olympic Fly Fishers, our outings are about more than just casting a line. They’re about belonging—joining a community of anglers who support each other, explore new waters together, and grow through shared experiences. From first-timers to seasoned anglers, everyone’s welcome, and everyone has something to gain.
Explore Top Fly Fishing Destinations
With more than 20 club-hosted trips each year, we visit some of the best fly fishing destinations in the region—scenic lakes, quiet beaches, and private-access spots available only to our members. Most are personally scouted or recommended by those who’ve fished them for years.
Experienced Hosts
Each outing is hosted by experienced anglers who are happy to offer tips, guidance, and encouragement along the way. You’ll know where to go—and how to fish it confidently and safely once you’re there.
What to Expect
You can find full trip details on our calendar, but here’s a quick look at the kind of adventures waiting for you...

Stillwater Fly Fishing: Calm Waters and Skill-Building on Lakes
Step into the quiet beauty of lakeside fly fishing. Our annual trips to Lone Lake, Hannan Lake, and the Winthrop/Twisp region invite members to relax, refine technique, and enjoy the gentle rhythm of stillwater angling. These fisheries are ideal for: • Fine-tuning fly presentation in clear, calm water. • Fishing with nymphs, dry flies, and leech patterns. • Learning to identify trout-holding structure like drop-offs and weed beds. Stillwater fly fishing is approachable, low-pressure, and perfect for anglers of all skill levels. Whether you're aiming to land your first fish or try a new tactic, our lake outings offer a slower pace—and plenty of opportunity to sharpen your game.
River Fly Fishing: Flow, Focus, and Freedom
Prefer the movement and music of running water? Our local and regional river trips offer you a chance to engage more actively with the water—reading current seams, spotting subtle takes, and dialing in casts for fish on the move. Featured rivers include: • Skykomish River – A favorite for steelhead, coho, and chinook salmon, with classic Northwest scenery. • Snoqualmie River – Particularly productive in its middle and south forks, where rainbow and coastal cutthroat trout rise in clear, boulder-strewn runs. • Stillaguamish River – Known for sea-run cutthroat and steelhead, this river offers a blend of accessibility and action. • Sauk River – Wild, remote, and home to bull trout and native steelhead, this one is a draw for anglers looking for a deeper connection to the resource. Beyond Washington, we travel to rivers like the Madison (MT), Lochsa, and Selway (ID)—true bucket-list fisheries that balance technical water with natural beauty. These trips are ideal for developing situational awareness, mastering different casting techniques, and becoming more in tune with the ecosystem.

Saltwater Fly Fishing: Tides, Timing, and Tactics
For a completely different experience, try chasing fish along the Puget Sound shoreline—where salt meets fly. Target species include: • Sea-run cutthroat trout – Always on the move and eager to strike a well-placed streamer. • Coho salmon – Show up seasonally, aggressive and hard-fighting. • Occasional chinook and steelhead, which keep things exciting. Unlike freshwater outings, saltwater fly fishing is about: • Covering water methodically from beaches or estuaries. • Learning to adapt to tides, wind, and bait movement. • Using sparse baitfish patterns and intermediate lines to get in the zone. Many of these outings are close to home yet feel like an escape. They're also a great way to gain confidence in gear versatility and expand your horizons as an angler.
You Could Go Alone. But Why Would You?
Fly fishing can be a solo sport—but it doesn’t have to be. At Olympic Fly Fishers, you’re surrounded by anglers who know the water, know the gear, and want to help you have a great day on the river (or lake, or beach).
Whether you're brand new or decades in, our members are eager to connect, share, and fish alongside you.

Show Up Solo. Leave With Friends.
You don’t need a fishing buddy to join—though you’ll likely leave with one. Many of our members join solo, then find themselves swapping stories, planning spontaneous trips, or checking in with new friends between outings. We are a social club. So our events are low-pressure, welcoming, and built for connection.
Learn Faster with Friendly Mentors
Everyone starts somewhere—and our members are happy to help. We’ve got folks who’ve fished the waters of Washington state and throughout the region for decades. They’re eager to pass along what they’ve learned. Whether it’s your cast, your fly choice, or how to enjoy the sport safely, you’ll get one-on-one tips and in-the-moment feedback that help you improve faster—without the risk and frustration of going it alone.
